Thalapothichil is the method of application of powders or pastes of medicines mixed with oils or juice of herbals on the head. In this procedure a paste of Amalaki, Musta, Panchagandha etc. are ground well to a paste consistency, applied over the whole scalp and covered with lotus/plantain leaf and make a hole in the leaf over the center part of the head for frequent application of thailam. This enables the medicines to penetrate faster into the brain cells. The healing properties of the herbs also calm down the nervous system and rejuvenate the person. It is indicated for patients suffering from neurological and psychic disorders, insomnia and certain types of vision impairment and skin disorders.
